Call For Papers - "Specifics of the Avant-garde - towards a cognitive dignity regarding Caged Cubicals"

CALL FOR PAPERS


The next HHC Research Students' conference is due to be held at 'HHCBristol' - Music Department (For The Nose) on 20 - 22 November 2009. The conference will feature a mix of student papers, panel discussion, social events, invited speakers (4 confirmed thus far) and concerts featuring music of ethnographic interest, 5 of the 6 Brandenburg concertos (2,3,4,5,6) and chamber music of the 20/21 Century. There will also be a chance to perform/display short films, art pieces and(depending on forces required) compositions in the venue over the three days.*


The theme of the conference is:


'Negative Capability' - exploring specifics of the Avant-garde, reactions to the Avant-garde and Byrd Boxes.




Broad topics for papers may include, but are not limited to:

* The late John Cage
* The early Avant-garde artists
* The tardy Avant-garde artists
* 2001: a Ken Doddery
* The rise of the sound artist
* Film as objet d'art
* Elliott Carter, Iannis Xenakis Vs. Cage, John

Proposals should not exceed 200 words in length, the deadline for electronic and paper submissions, compositions, films and art pieces is 2 November 2009.



REGISTRATION (NB/ registration closes one week prior to the conference start date)

Registration for the conference is free of charge, refreshments are included, though there will be a charge for each of the concerts.

Your registration pack will provide the conference schedule, booking sheets for each of the concerts (plus an exclusive invitation to an exciting concert on the 18 November), accommodation information and 8 details on each of the events.
